Hi chelone,

I have moved your post to the Installation board. If you check the FAQ here there will be a list of some common mistakes when entering a key, the solution will be one of them but without further info I cannot tell you which.

Mike

Help / Advice needed please.... I've not used the programme for two years after my last voyage when the programme repeatedly caused the laptop to crash. Now I've another voyage pending so would like to use it again (same laptop). I've had anti-virus software installed and performed a complete scan etc, reinstalled the software but am now unsure whether it'll work? When I open the program and select FAX the animated sound reception box appears and is sensitive to sound as before....but when I click 'Help' and ' Registration' the dialogue box appears and asks for Registration Key...so I enter the key and it says 'The key is invalid try again'....I tried entering by copy & paste and manually with the same result....any ideas / help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Sorry, as I mentioned before I have no further ideas. You can be sure that if everything has remained untouched and disconnected from the internet then it should still work, provided you still have the same setup. From your posts and earlier emails I gather you used an outfitter to connect everything, it might be a good idea to contact him again.

Note you do not have to use the PTC-II for decoding, you can also use your sound card (which requires an audio cable). The Help explains this more.

Ok. So I found a USB connection wire in a cupboard. I connected that and the PC now recognises the Modem. I can get Sailmail to work, so that is recognising the modem and COM port. However, when I open Mscan Meteo, it still says PTC-ll not detected.
I guess this might be due to settings in the progam. I advised you in the previous note, what settings I have. I have left the wire going into the microphone port. I am trying to use RTTY and it is I believed correctly tuned into the ICOM.
I have looked through the help pages, but cant work out what to do next.
Thanks for your help.

Sorry I meant to say that the Toughbook PC is not connected to the internet, so I have not upgraded any firmware/software.
Wiring should be the same.

Thanks. I tried that, and it still said 'PTC-II not detected'. If I try and open Sailmail is says 'No ready signal (CTS) from COM1. Check controller connection.
The PTC is showing red lights.

The interface type is for PTC, with Auto PTC initialization. COM1 port is ticked.
Receiver is ICOM Marine, connected to PTC
Audio source shows Volume Control. Under that Microphone is chosen (not sure if that is right?) Volume control is muted.
Receiver control is on USB.
Rtty Baud rate is 50 Bd.

I am just connecting to the PC with the lead that goes into the Microphone socket. I dont remember connecting anything else, but it seems to be a connection issue.

Thanks for advice on what to do next. Katie

If you're sure you have not changed anything (especially upgraded the PTC firmware!) then all I can think of is that you forgot to switch everything on in the right order (so the PTC can create its comport): always start with the PTC. Of course, XP might have upgraded and broke something, it has been a loooooooooooooooong time since I used XP (no need to remind you it is no longer safe to use it?).

I have not used my ICOM SSB and Pactor Modem since 2012. I want to start getting weather forecasts again. I connected my Toughbook laptop, which I have also not used since 2012, via the microphone portal as I used to. It is running XP. The SSB is still tuned into the right channel. It makes the ringing noise that it used to). I opened Mscan Meteo. All settings are as they were. The first message I got, was that it did not recognise the COM port. I checked the settings, which seemed to be OK, but then it did not seem to be recognising the Pactor modem. What steps can I take to get it working again? Thanks
